Kite Season

We travel a fair bit. In some of these mountain states, destinations are few and far between, and you embrace it. You don’t flinch at a four hour drive. You just figure out quickly how to manage it.

That said, we also live in a mountain state with plenty of fresh air. That’s a positive way to say that it’s windy, which many of these wonderful states are. And so, as we travel to and from our destinations as the weather warms, I’ve started to automatically pack completely practical things like fishing gear and kites to help make the long travels more fun. These items seem as natural to me to pack as water and light snacks.

We recently went on a weekend trip, and luckily had our handy-dandy kites along. We stopped on a random road, and sent them flying into that big, blue sky, speckled with cotton ball clouds. It was lovely. I hope those moments, the site of those bright kites, and the feel of the wind on their faces stay with them. And when they are all grown up and traveling to and fro, I hope they never get tired of packing their own kites, stopping along a random road, and flying them ’til their heart’s content.
