5 Fun Things for 2017

The new year is here!  We say bring it on.  While we have heard {and hear} the sentiment of relief in leaving 2016 behind, we choose to say thanks to 2016 for the good and the bad, the lessons learned and the life lived.  We welcome 2017 with open arms.

To usher in this new year, we look to new beginnings, resolutions, and a general refresh.  Below, 5 fun things that you might want to look into … for the fun of it!

First, for all you resolutioners out there, a podcast to listen to while you meet your weekly running/walking goals.  Modern Love from NPR.  Yes, love is the underlying theme, but the stories range from the strange to the funny to the downright macabre.  Plus they are short(ish), and you can listen to 3 or 4 in one workout.

Next up, Winter TV! Three shows to check out (you’re welcome) – two are on History Channel, and one will air on HBO in February.  First, on the History Channel: Alone and The Selection.  Alone puts adults in the wild for as long as they can last, for up to a year(!).  They can bring 10 items for survival, and are expected to build their own shelter and find their own food. They must survive alone!  It’s fascinating, and beautiful because it’s set in the Patagonia mountain range.  The Selection is intense, but so, so good too.  Another “human” experiment, it puts civilians in military-style special ops training.   The HBO show has yet to air, but looks promising!  Big Little Lies on HBO will premiere in February, and stars Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman.  Someone gets murdered.  I’m in.

Bear with us on this one.  Looks like a teapot … NOT a teapot.  This is a Neti Pot.  It flushes toxins from your nose and nasal cavity, and is, we think, a super simple way to protect your health during these winter months.  We love how The Chalkboard Mag describes it:

“By clearing the sinuses of irritants such as dirt, viruses, bacteria and other unwelcome toxins, you are able to lower the total load of irritants and toxins ingested. This helps reduce symptoms such as allergies, congestion, sinus pressure, post-nasal drip, headaches and inflammation, while helping to fight upper respiratory and sinus infections and colds. Regular use of the neti pot can also improve the sense of smell and lessen the incidence of allergy attacks and illness. In addition, the clearer the sinuses, the more effectively they can protect the body from inhaled pollutants.”

We get it.  The holidays were just here.  You’re trying to not spend on yourself. The operative word there is TRYING.  Buuuuuut…. It’s winter! Your head is cold and needs a little bright spot to get you through these next three months.  And these Cirque beanies are too cute to resist.  I do not need one, I do not need one, I do not need one.  But I’m eyeing the one above..  There are lots of other styles available, too!

Have you seen these little numbers in action?  This is an aromatherapy diffuser –  a pretty way to add some calming, hydrated air to your home.  We love a vanilla/lemon essential oil combo.

Finally, last but not least, maybe cross both of these off of your to-do list. A new year is so full of possibility.
